Bed & Breakfast/Homestay
Dannevirke, New Zealand

       Things to See and Do...

The Mangatera Stream that borders the property is readily accessible and is a source of rest and respite for anglers.

Easily accessible from our property (five minutes walk down the hill) is the Dannevirke Domain.  This local facility includes a traditional children's playground and equipment.  It has expansive grounds which also offer plenty of impressive specimen gardens, waterfowl (which enjoy your particular attention when you feed them) and a deer park.

Just down the road - (about 10 minutes walk) are the wonderful Erskine Gardens.  For a small fee of $3, Roger Erskine himself will take you on a personal tour around the gardens.

If you feel like a drive, Herbertville Beach is 70kms east of Dannevirke.  Cape Turnagain was named by James Cook during his first voyage to New Zealand.  The beach offers all the attractions of the seaside, swimming, surfing, snorkelling and a large stretch of sandy beach.

Manawatu Gorge Walk

Manawatu Gorge Walk

For the casual tramper, the Manawatu Gorge Walk is absolutely fabulous.  The track has been upgraded to cater for the many tourists that walk it.  There are many varieties of trees, ferns and shrubs - the lookout points are spectacular, with views of the gorge and windmills on your way through.

The walk can be commenced at the Ashurst end of the Gorge or enter via the Klein Track walk.  The walk can take anywhere from 2.5 hours to 5 hours - depends on your fitness level.
